What does it mean to study in Germany beyond lectures and exams? How can you successfully navigate different academic expectations, communication styles and classroom interactions?

This interactive workshop is designed for international students who want to better understand the cultural foundations of academic life in Germany. Together, we will explore typical characteristics of German study culture, such as expectations towards student behaviour, gender dynamics and the role of teachers. Participants will reflect on their own academic background and compare learning and teaching styles across cultures. We will also discuss common challenges in intercultural communication and develop strategies to prevent misunderstandings and conflicts, for instance between students and instructors, or within diverse student groups.

Through practical exercises, small-group discussions and real-life examples, the workshop will support international students in developing key competencies needed for a successful and respectful academic experience in Germany.

The workshop is led by Claudia Ekwuazi and is offered in English.

Registration is required via the booking system.
