Approximately one third of all cancers worldwide occur in the gastrointestinal tract. As of this year, the experienced oncologist Professor Florian Lordick from the University of Leipzig Medical Center has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of ESMO Gastrointestinal Oncology, the new international journal for clinical and experimental research in gastrointestinal cancer.

“The prognosis for patients with oesophageal, liver, colorectal and other gastrointestinal cancers is very critical. However, recent research has produced many promising results in terms of better diagnostics for early detection and treatment options. The new journal will fill a gap in this area. Research also focuses on the quality of life of patients,” says Professor Lordick, Director of the University Cancer Center Leipzig.

Together with Professor Irit Ben-Aharon from Haifa, Israel, the oncologist is Editor-in-Chief of the peer-reviewed journal. It is published by the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).
