Professorship in Immunology (W2)

Academic context

The University of Leipzig was founded in 1409 and is among largest, research-intensive, and leading medical universities in Germany. The Institute of Immunology is a member of the Centre for Infectious Diseases of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and is located at the Centre for Biotechnology and Biomedicine (BBZ) of Leipzig University. The BBZ has a comprehensive technology platform of cell biological, molecular biological and immunological methods. In addition, the institute operates the Core Unit "Flow Cytometry".

Duties

The professorship represents the field of immunology in teaching, research and continuing education. The successful applicant will head the Institute of Immunology. In addition to basic immunobiology, teaching activities should focus on immunopathogenesis and clinical veterinary immunology. The Institute's current teaching and examination activities also cover the subjects of genetics and laboratory animal science. Scientific cooperation with other institutes of the faculty and contribution to the faculty’s research priorities and the university’s strategic research fields are expected. The successful applicant’s future research focus should be in the field of immunology of veterinary infectious diseases and ensure a direct link to the BBZ through translational models. A research concept presenting the links between the planned projects and the research priorities of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the BBZ and other university institutions should be submitted with the application.

Requirements

In addition to profound knowledge of immunology, outstanding research achievements, experience in teaching and the successful acquisition of competitive third-party funding are expected. Applicants should preferably be licensed to practice veterinary medicine. Veterinary specialization (“Fachtierärzt:in”) or a comparable qualification are desirable. The applicant must hold a habilitation degree or an equivalent qualification.
