The Saxon Minister of Science, Sebastian Gemkow, has addressed researchers in the Free State with a personal video message. In it, he acknowledges their achievements and commitment to research into COVID-19, but also scientific work in general.

In the two-and-a-half-minute video, Gemkow also highlights people’s often heavy workload during the pandemic: “We know that many of you don’t record your overtime; you spend your weekends at the office, and sometimes put your family and personal commitments and relationships on the back burner. During the lockdown, those burdens weigh even heavier.”

He appeals to researchers to be optimistic about the future despite everything: “It may sound trite, but the pandemic will be over one day.” Gemkow affirms that the Free State will stand by its commitments to the research and science institutions in Saxony.
