Abstract

Paul Skäbe is a Historian and research associate at the interdisciplinary Leipzig Lab "Global Health" in the project "Pandemic Space: Understanding Quarantine and Responsibilization in Times of Corona" and is associated with the ReCentGlobe.


He is currently working on his dissertation on "Segregation, Quarantine, Responsibilization: The African American Experience during the 1918-20 Great Influenza Pandemic." This project focuses on the intersection of quarantine practices, discourses of responsibilization, and racialized spatial segregation in the early 20th century United States.


His primary research interests are in North American history, specifically Black history, knowledge and cultural history, social history, and spatial history with a specific focus on urban contexts.
