Before starting your studies, Leipzig University offers preparatory courses in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and economics. The preparatory courses are an opportunity for you to refresh the mathematics you learned at school and prepare specifically for your studies together with other first-year students.

Preparatory Courses Before Your Degree

Are you beginning a degree at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science? Has it been a while since you left school, or was maths perhaps not your strongest subject? Our preparatory maths course gives you an opportunity to refresh some important areas of school-level maths before you start studying.

The Institute of Computer Science also offers an introductory course, giving you an overview of key concepts and methods of computer science.

The times of the courses are scheduled in such a way that it is possible to attend both courses.

Are you about to start studying physics, meteorology, chemistry or for a physics teaching qualification at Leipzig University? Has it been a while since you left school, or was maths perhaps not your strongest subject? The preparatory mathematics course lets you refresh your school knowledge on important topics:

  • Vector calculus
  • Integral calculus
  • Functions
  • Differential calculus
  • Complex numbers

A lecture in the morning presents the subject matter. This is followed by group exercises in the afternoon. More details about the preparatory courses are available on the Faculty of Physics and Earth Sciences website.

Please note: Registration is not required. The course is free of charge for first-semester students of Leipzig University. Participation is voluntary and there are no assessments or evaluations.
