The 13th alumni association of the International Coaching Courses (ITK) at Leipzig University’s Faculty of Sport Science has been founded in the Nigerien capital Niamey. Similar pieces of Leipzig already exist in Argentina, Brazil, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Haiti, Mexico, Morocco, Paraguay, Senegal, Togo and Tunisia.

The ITK focuses on developing sports, but also development through sport, in the countries of the global south. The path to this goal is professional further training of sports teachers, coaches and athletes, who, thanks to this qualification, can themselves contribute to improving sports and social structures in their home countries.

The ITK’s worldwide network supports alumni in the important task of passing on their knowledge and offering further education in cooperation with local educational institutions and sports ministries. Over 40 ITK ambassadors are committed to this all over the world. One essential component of this network are the ITK alumni associations at national level. They provide an opportunity for ITK alumni of different years and disciplines to join forces in order to promote national projects in sports and education and to foster international cooperation for research.
