American historian Dr Gavin Murray-Miller will join the Research Centre Global Dynamics (ReCentGlobe) at Leipzig University this autumn as a visiting scholar. Dr Murray-Miller will come to Leipzig from Cardiff University on a prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship for experienced researchers.

He will contribute to ReCentGlobe’s Research Area 1, which deals with the changing nature of world orders, and conduct research on trans-imperial politics in the Muslim Mediterranean between 1880 and 1918. “With this study of a conflict-ridden overlapping space of several empires in a time of growing international tensions, he will significantly contribute to Research Area 1 as a historian of transnational interdependencies,” said Professor Matthias Middell, ReCentGlobe Director.

Dr Gavin Murray-Miller holds a PhD from the University of Virginia (US), researches and teaches at Cardiff University (Wales) and has already completed research stays in Mainz, Paris, Sofia and Moscow. He will be in Leipzig until August 2022 and will publicly present his research project at the CRC 1199 colloquium on 10 November 2021.
