The Research Unit “Biotic Interactions, Community Assembly, and Eco-Evolutionary Dynamics as Drivers of Long-Term Biodiversity–Ecosystem Functioning Relationships” will receive a second funding period. This was announced by the German Research Foundation (DFG) today (22 September 2023). The network’s spokesperson is Professor Nico Eisenhauer, Professor of Experimental Interaction Ecology at Leipzig University and at the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig.

Biodiversity plays a crucial role in the functioning of ecosystems. The DFG Research Group is investigating the underlying ecological and evolutionary mechanisms by applying new experimental and analytical methods in one of the world’s longest running biodiversity experiments: the Jena Experiment. The central aim is to find out what mechanisms influence the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functions in the short and long term.
