Research data services A-Z
Rent a virtual server
The URZ offers faculties and institutions of the UL virtualised servers for their own IT services. These can be configured according to requirements in terms of CPU, RAM and hard disk space, etc. Working with virtual machines is almost like having the computer in front of you. However, you do not need to use your own hardware. Most virtual servers realised so far are special web servers that could not be accommodated on the central web server, such as project servers, groupware servers e.g. for Alfresco, institute servers for file service, application provision, learning environments e.g. for special Moodle installations. In addition, there is a whole series of infrastructure servers (authorisation, proxy, etc.) of the URZ, the UB and other institutions, which are now realised as virtual servers.
Software shop
On behalf of the University, the URZ offers institutions as well as staff and students the opportunity to purchase a variety of programmes and associated licences (e.g. SPSS, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe Photoshop Elements, Filemaker, EndNote and many more) via the software shop. The software shop is operated by an external service provider (ASKNET).
Software: Citavi
Citavi is a programme for literature management and knowledge organisation. Many students use Citavi when writing term papers and theses, researchers often use the programme when working on scientific publications.
Software: Electronic lab notebook
The laboratory notebook plays a major role in the planning, implementation and evaluation of scientific experiments and research projects. Compared to analogue solutions, the electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) offers many advantages. For example, the ELN can be linked to measuring devices, analysis programmes and storage infrastructures, making research data traceable and retrievable and making research processes more efficient. At Leipzig University, the ELN eLabFTW provided by the Faculty of Medicine is available to researchers.
SOFTWARE: MATLAB & SIMULINK
Engineers and scientists worldwide use MATLAB and Simulink to analyse data and signals, simulate complex systems, and perform model-based development. Use the latest versions of MATLAB and Simulink and other MathWorks products to support your teaching and research.
Software: Microsoft 365 for employees
Through the state licence agreement for Microsoft products, the URZ offers all employees of Leipzig University's higher education sector the free, operational use of Microsoft 365.
Software: Visualisation with MindManager
With the MindManager software, you have the opportunity to quickly and clearly create mind maps, share them and work on them in a team. Leipzig University provides you with a free campus licence for this purpose.
Storage space for workgroups
The storage space for work groups offers a shared storage space for storing large quantities of jointly used documents in a wide range of file formats with access for authorised members of Leipzig University. The drive can be used from the university network or via VPN for those involved in the department/workgroup.
