Office for University Communications
Structure and tasks
As one of the Rector’s central offices, we see ourselves as internal and external consultants and service providers for the whole University, working in the areas of press and media relations, alumni and event management, and brand communication.
Mission Statement
The Office for University Communications is central to science and brand communication at Leipzig University. We promote a broad dialogue between members of the University community, multipliers and the public, always aware of our responsibility in terms of reliable, comprehensible communication that provides context and orientation. To achieve this, we support our dialogue partners in building networks, being well informed, and being able to communicate accordingly. We use a variety of channels and event formats for this purpose.
One of our central tasks is to help shape and communicate Leipzig’s strategic goals and achievements as well as how the Alma mater Lipsiensis sees itself. Through our work, we raise the University’s national and international profile. We want to promote the interest of students, researchers, friends and supporters in the University, integrate Leipzig into the city and region, and offer a space for dialogue and networking. We empower researchers to engage in targeted science communication.
We offer targeted services to our communication partners both inside and outside the University. Together, we work on presenting our institution both externally and internally, with the aim of creating a uniform Leipzig University brand. We pay attention to the internal and external impact of what we do and endeavour to act responsibly, carefully, sustainably and transparently.
We review the results of our work in order to enhance what we do. In our ever-evolving work environment, we recognise the importance of continuing professional development as well as internal and external networks, especially with other higher education institutions. As a university communications team, we see ourselves as facilitators who provide important overarching transfer services and promote identification with our university.
The foundations of our work include:
- The guidelines of the Federal Association of University Communication
- The guidelines for good science PR from Wissenschaft im Dialog
- The Position Paper of the German Rectors’ Conference: “Hochschulkommunikation als strategische Aufgabe” (“University communication as a strategic task”)
