As Commissioners for Equal Opportunities, we are committed to promoting equal opportunities and gender equality across the University. We support you in implementing gender equality policies, raise awareness of gender issues and work with you to develop appropriate strategies. We also act as a point of contact for concerns and complaints.

What we do

Promoting equal opportunities across the University is one of our key responsibilities. We take a position on all gender equality issues, particularly in relation to appointment procedures and the recruitment of academic and artistic staff. We also provide comprehensive equal opportunities advice to all members of the University.

We are elected by the members of the Equal Opportunities Council. Our legal mandate is set out in Sect. 56 of the Saxon higher education act (Sächsisches Hochschulgesetz, SächsHSG) and in the Saxon gender equality act (Sächsisches Gleichstellungsgesetz, SächsGleiG).

We work for you in the following areas:

We offer information, advice and support on the following topics:

  • Achieving equality between women and men
  • Representation of LGBTQIA+ members of our university
  • Funding opportunities and programmes specifically for women at federal, state and university level
  • Compatibility of career and family
  • Reconciling work and family life
  • Sexualised violence.

You are also welcome to contact us if you have any suggestions regarding our topics.

We are a member of the Senate of our university in an advisory capacity. We submit our own proposals and proposals from the Gender Equality Committee to the Senate. The proposals contain concrete suggestions on how current equality issues can be taken into account in fundamental matters.

We are part of the Equal Opportunities Council. In this body, the Commissioners fo Equal Opportunities of our 14 faculties and central institutions exchange views on current equality issues.

The Equal Opportunities Officers of the faculties and central institutions work towards equal opportunities for their members. They can comment on all equality issues, in particular in appointment procedures and in the recruitment of academic and artistic staff. They can inspect application documents and participate in meetings of the appointment committees with the right to speak and submit motions. They also advise members of the university on issues relating to equal opportunities.

The decentralised Equal Opportunities Officers are elected by the members and members of the respective faculties. Their legal mandate is set out in Section 56 of the Saxon Higher Education Act (SächsHSG) and the Saxon Equal Opportunities Act.
