Diversity Consulting

  • What does diversity-sensitive recruitment entail?
  • How do project structures supporting compatibility between family and work look like?
  • What needs to be considered in inclusive science communication?
  • What aspects enable barrier-free working and studying environments?
  • How can project processes be designed to be fair and respectful for everyone involved?

To provide tailored answers to these questions, the team at the Office for Equality, Diversity and Family Affairs offers "Diversity Consulting" – grounded in a wide range of expertise.

Diversity and equity are key criteria for the application and allocation of funding by the German Research Foundation (DFG). To further promote gender equity and diversity in academia, the DFG has integrated diversity aspects into its Research-Oriented Standards on Gender Equality, which are now known under the expanded title "Research-Oriented Equity and Diversity Standards."  In addition to gender and gender identity, these standards entail factors such as ethnic origin, religion or worldview, disability or chronic diseases, as well as social background and sexual orientation. Moreover, an intersectional approach, which considers the interaction of multiple dimensions of difference within an individual, will be given greater attention in future applications.

At Leipzig University, the Office for Equality, Diversity and Family Affairs offers comprehensive advisory and support services for all planned and ongoing research projects, such as collaborative research centres, research training groups, and research units. The aim is to promote and ensure diversity and equity within these projects.

Promoting diversity and gender equality is not simply limited to the individuals involved in research projects. The consideration of diversity categories across the entire research design is crucial for achieving scientific excellence.

The German Research Foundation (DFG) checklist on the relevance of gender and diversity in research serves as a helpful guide for applicants in planning and implementing research projects that incorporate equity and diversity. Additional information and practical examples can be found on the DFG website.

Additionally, the Office for Equality, Diversity and Family Affairs offers impulses on integrating diversity into every stage of the research cycle and supports you in analysing the significance of diversity dimensions for your research project.
