Abstract
Grit Mehlhorn is a Professor of Didactics of Slavic Languages at the Institute for Slavic Studies at the University of Leipzig. She studied Eastern Slavic Studies, Eastern and Southeastern European Studies, Applied Linguistics and German as a Foreign Language at the Universities of Leipzig and Kiev and Polish as a Foreign Language at the University of Katowice. After completing her doctorate, she worked as a teacher for special assignments, research associate and junior professor in the field of didactics of German as a foreign language at the universities of Leipzig, Stuttgart and the Technical University of Berlin. In March 2007 she moved to the Institute for Slavic Studies at the University of Leipzig, where she trains teachers of Polish, Russian and Czech. Her research focuses on multilingualism, pronunciation acquisition, and heritage language didactics. Since 2007 she was a member and from 2014 to 2023 head of the editorial board of the "Zeitschrift für Fremdsprachenforschung".

The SPÜ consist of preparatory and follow-up seminars as well as group hospitations and teaching attempts of each individual student in Russian classes at a school in Leipzig or at the Augustum-Annen-Gymnasium Görlitz (Polish classes) or the Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium Pirna (Czech classes).

Didactics of Slavonic Languages 4
The School Practical Studies (SPS IV/V) are carried out as a four-week block internship during the lecture-free period (end of February to the end of March or end of August to the end of September) and consist of approx. 25 hours of observation and up to 15 held lessons in Polish, Russian or Czech at a school of the type studied (Gymnasium or Oberschule). Registration for the block internship is done at the beginning of the semester via the internship portal.

Research Colloquium "Empirical Language Didactics Leipzig"
This research colloquium is aimed at doctoral students who want to do a doctorate in empirical foreign language research. It is designed to be cross-lingual (English, German as a second and foreign language, Romance and Slavic languages) and is jointly offered by the foreign language didactics experts of the Faculty of Philology. The colloquium provides a forum for young scholars to discuss current research projects.
