Human perception is characterized by the necessity of dealing with an incomplete, but still massive stream of sensory information. Full processing of all of this information would overload our perceptual system - therefore only a part of this information is selected for elaborate processing. Attentional selection, both within and between different sensory modalities, is the main focus of our research. For that purpose we mainly conduct EEG experiments.

The courses inExperimental Psychology and Methods mainly deal with the following topics: attention, learning, memory, emotion and motivation. Our teachings aim to outline general principles for human and animal behaviour. In Leipzig we put emphasis on cognitive neurosciences regarding psychology. In methodological seminars as well as accompanying courses of the Cognitive and Biological Psychology, we provide the neccessary tools for a general understanding of e.g. electroencephalographic recordings (EEG), functional imaging (fMRI, PET) or electrical / magnetic stimulation methods (tACS, TMS).
