The Studentenwerk Leipzig has announced that the previous MDV semester ticket for students will be replaced by the “Deutschland-Semesterticket” from 1 April 2024. The new ticket will be valid throughout Germany, just like the regular “Deutschland-Ticket”. As a result, student cards are no longer valid as travel passes. The new ticket has been available since 21 March via the LeipzigMOVE app or as a chip card at an LVB service centre. The new Deutschland-Semesterticket costs €176.40 per semester (€29.40 per month) and is paid for with the semester ticket fee when students enrol or re-enrol at the University.

A number of special rules apply when accessing the Deutschland-Semesterticket, for example for students who have an existing Deutschland-Ticket upgrade, who apply for reimbursement of the semester fee, or who are registered at their university under a different name to the one on their ID document (such as genderqueer people or people who use pseudonyms).

Full details can be found on the Studentenwerk Leipzig website.
