A total of six researchers from Leipzig University are among the 6,849 authors who have been cited most frequently in their respective fields worldwide over the past decade. The company Clarivate Analytics publishes the annual Highly Cited Researchers list, which is considered an important indicator of how influential scientists and their publications are. The ranking, published today, is based on an analysis of the most cited papers in the Web of Science literature database.

From Leipzig University these researchers are, in alphabetical order:

Professor Matthias Blüher, Director of the Helmholtz Institute for Metabolic, Obesity and Vascular Research, spokesperson of Collaborative Research Centre 1052 “Obesity Mechanisms”, endocrinology consultant

Professor Elmar Brähler (emeritus), Department of Medical Psychology and Medical Sociology

Professor Svante Pääbo, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Professor of Genetics and Evolutionary Biology at Leipzig University

Professor Steffi G. Riedel-Heller, Director of the Institute of Social Medicine, Occupational Medicine and Public Health (ISAP)

Professor Holger Thiele, Medical Director of the Department for Cardiology at Leipzig Heart Center at Leipzig University

Dr Marten Winter, Head of the sDiv Synthesis Centre and EOC Equal Opportunities Counsellor

Professor Steffi G. Riedel-Heller, Professor Matthias Blüher and Professor Holger Thiele are involved in the project to establish a clinical research centre for metabolic research as part of the second competition phase of the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments.

Clarivate Analytics selects its Highly Cited Researchers based on the most cited publications in the Web of Science literature database. The ranking includes the authors of research papers that have been among the top one per cent in their fields in the Web of Science citation index over the past decade. The ranking lists 6,849 researchers from 67 countries.
